July 19: Sabbath Rest, Book Club & Cookout Invite
Backyard Rest, Sabbath, & Much More
Hey everyone!
Last Sunday's backyard worship and waffle bar was truly a gift. More than 40 of us gathered in the Lopez-Ericksens' yard, and it truly felt like the “mountains and hills bursting into song” that Isaiah wrote about. Thank you to everyone who helped set up, cook, serve, and break it all back down — especially James & Veronica— your hands made that morning happen, and we are so grateful for each of you.
Sabbath Sunday
This Sunday, July 19th, is a Sabbath Sunday — no gathering.Jesus told the weary and burdenedto come to him and find rest (Matthew 11:28), and that's an invitation, not a guilt trip. So take the day. Sleep in, sit in the sun, do nothing productive on purpose. (Certainly several of you will be enjoying the Spain-Argentina World Cup Final.) Let your body and spirit remember that God is still God even when we're not doing anything for Him.
Summer Book Club
Out of our most recent Kingdom Longings study (led by Josh Chen) a desire emerged to keep gathering as a small group during the summer season. So we’re starting up a weekly book group, going through the book Liturgies for Resisting Empireby Kat Armas. The group will meet every Wednesday for seven weeks, starting July 29 and concluding on September 9th, at First Tongan UMC (4600 SE 97th Ave). Cookout Next Sunday
Next Sunday, July 26th at 11AM, we’re back in the Lopez-Ericksen backyard for a good old fashioned cookout! Jelani will set up his DJ speakers, and there will be food, fellowship, and fun for the whole family. Pulled pork, hamburgers, and hotdogs will be provided — bring your favorite side dish to share. There will be yard games for the kids, including an organized (and strictly non-lethal) water balloon toss (so let them run around a little!).
Pray for Leaders, Plz
Please keep the leaders of Access Covenant in your prayers! For Pastor Joel Sommer to continue to receive rest and holy perspective as he processes the changes happening in his life, and for the rest of your Access lead team (Jelani, Bonnie, Julie, James, Luke & Josh) as we continue to make preparations for our fall launch.
