July 12: Backyard Worship & Waffles
Hey everyone!
Join us this week for a backyard worship service & breakfast waffle bar in the backyard de la Familia Lopez-Ericksen! We’ll have some worship songs from Pastor Jelani and a special word from Pastor Cheryl Denise Baker.
As you prepare, reflect on these words from Isaiah 55:12-13(NIV):
You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands.
13 Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper,
and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.
This will be for the Lord’s renown,
for an everlasting sign,
that will endure forever.
Even in the glorious Portland summer time, we all have struggles to overcome, concerns that weigh us down, problems we are trying to solve. The prophet Isaiah was speaking to a people in the middle of a period of generational exile, but he wanted them to know that the way they entered into their time of exile was not the same as the way they would return. He gave them a vision of hope rooted not in their circumstances, but in God’s goodness as it was reflected to them through the beautiful elements of creation. The mountains and hills will break into applause, the trees will clap, and there will be joyful feasting.
So don’t let any of your concerns — real as they may be — stop you from joining the party.
