Immigration Action Items

Hi folks,

Gaby Viesca delivered a powerful Word on God’s presence among our migrant siblings. It’s important when we receive such a Word to take a step in response, so that we can integrate this new information. Taking action–even a small one, like a small financial donation or a note of support–has a way of preventing overwhelm from setting in and paralyzing us.

-

Here are just a couple ways we can respond to the truth that God is among our migrant relatives. These are ongoing opportunities for presence, learning, and support.

PIRC

The Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition is the gold standard for supporting targeted migrants right now. With only five staffers, they are coordinating massive efforts around the Portland area to protect targeted people. Their real output is not the organization itself, but their connections in the community. Reach out to them to learn about training and information sessions.

Call or text their Hotline to report ICE sightings, request assistance for migrants, or find out about opportunities to care for migrants: (888) 622-1510.

Defend Migrants Alliance

We have special love for the Defend Migrants Alliance of Oregon, because we hosted their launch meeting in Sept. 2025! A collective of mostly Filipino-led or Filipino-adjacent orgs, they are visionary, bold, and active–and they love our church. No website at the moment, but you can follow them on Instagram: Defend Migrants Alliance Oregon

Financial Help for Iranian Detainees

Three Iranian men, all Christians living in SW Portland, were recently detained by ICE. As Iranian Christians, their homeland is unsafe due to the violent repression of an extremist regime. As is often the case, they were in full compliance with the legal asylum process and were detained during a routine immigration appointment. The sad reality is that they are now detained and in need of significant assistance to retain legal help. Having legal representation can make a crucial difference in the outcome of deportation proceedings, and in this case could save their lives.

Funds are being distributed to a trusted local educator who is known to several in the Access Community. To learn their story and consider supporting, click here.

Our church also has contacts at Community Support Groups at Franklin High School and Lent School. Reach out if you want to partner with a local, school-based effort.

But whatever you do, be present and stay connected as you seek more opportunities to connect with God's work of making all things new. Access Church exists for the healing of all God’s children.
