Art IS Resistance - Community Project

*ART IS RESISTANCE: A Collaborative Art Project*

Something beautiful is growing. At Access, we believe that God loves self expression through art, and gave us these gifts to use for Her purposes and to His glory. Through the Holy Spirit, this expression can help us heal our souls while we move toward empathy, inform about needs, and inspire toward actions of love and resistance.

*Access Covenant Church is launching Art Is Resistance: A Collaborative Art Project.*

We enthusiastically invite artists of all ages to submit works of art that touch on themes of justice, hope, shalom, and loving our neighbors. Submissions should reflect not only the themes of daily struggle but also point a way forward to hope and justice - not only for you, but for your family, your church, your neighborhood, our city, state, nation and world.

VARIOUS ART FORMS ARE WELCOME, INCLUDING:

*Visual arts* - drawing, painting, cartoons, collage, photography, mixed media, sculpture

*Written word* - poetry, prose, short story, essay

*Performance art* - music, dance, spoken word

*Call to Goodness: While the greatest aim of this project is to freely process our individual spiritual journey in a juxtaposition of hope and grief, we encourage all artists to be intentional and reflect a measure of effort, skill, and/or craftsmanship in their submissions.*

FOR ARTISTS: In your attempts at capturing themes of hope, justice and shalom, consider asking the following questions:

• “Where did I witness love of neighbor this week?”

• “What does resistance look like in my daily life?”

• “Where have I witnessed new life emerging?”

• “What feelings have been present as I witnessed these things?

After all the submissions are reviewed, a team will determine the feasibility of expanding this project to support and/or fundraise for the church and/or other community justice efforts already in progress.

*SUBMIT BY THE INITIAL DEADLINE OF WEDNESDAY MAY 20th TO DISPLAY YOUR ART IN THE PRELUDE TO OUR ANNUAL BEATS & JOKES EVENT ON SATURDAY MAY 23RD. The FINAL DEADLINE for submissions will be FRIDAY JUNE 20th. *

*One Final Note:* This initiative centers process just as much as product. It’s our prayer that the act of creating art that speaks to and through your heart will be healing and calming for your soul, and that God will use it to bless you, everyone in your ever-widening circle of influence.
